Local Missions Outreach

John 13:35 “By this will all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another”.

In 2017, after much prayer and study, New Hope launched a monthly outreach to the West side of Springfield.  Specifically, the corner of Light Street and West Main Street, an area which has one of the highest opioid overdose numbers in our city.  It is also a location that is known for Drugs, Prostitution, Generational Poverty, and Homelessness. Our purpose in this outreach is to Show our fellow men, women, and children, who feel no one cares about them, that God loves them and so do we.

The method of our ministry is to open our hearts and truly love them. Unless there is a special reason such as a holiday, we meet on the last Saturday of each month. In the winter months we have been able to use the Springfield Soup Kitchen, which is located just a block down the street.  They have been very gracious to us.

The ministry doesn’t take place by grabbing the Microphone and preaching a strong message, rather, it occurs as we sit with our neighbors and eat with them and strike up conversation to get to know them. It’s a ministry of building intentional relationships. We listen to what they have to say about life and their struggles.  It’s not about giving away a hand out, it’s about setting a table for people to come together and talk. We have laughed with them, cried with them, and mourned the loss of our fellow neighbors as some have passed from overdosing or violence in the streets. Even in these tragedies, we see God move for His glory.
